The couple had a strong commitment to sustainability and were conscious of the environmental and financial costs associated with inefficient heating. Their goal was to find a solution that would fit their energy-conscious lifestyle without causing unnecessary disruption to their home.

Like many homeowners, Eve and Stephen initially invited several companies to assess their heating system needs. However, they quickly noticed that many of the representatives were pushing for extensive, invasive upgrades.

“We had 4 companies come out,” Stephen recalls. “Three of them were obvious salesmen, telling us we needed to have enlarged radiators, bigger pipes, rip up the floors—the lot.”

But when Richard, a Director and Co-Founder of The Natural Energy Company, arrived for his assessment, his approach was different. “He wasn’t a salesman—very much an engineer,” Stephen explains. Richard took the time to inspect the home thoroughly, taking measurements and completing a heat loss calculation before making any recommendations.

Instead of insisting on major changes, Richard gave the couple options. “He suggested we may want to change 2 radiators,” Stephen explains. “But on the other hand, he said we could live with the system as it was and see how we got on.”

For Eve and Stephen, the idea of keeping their existing system without the need for large-scale changes was highly appealing. As Eve puts it, “We’re very waste-conscious. The thought of ripping out all the radiators in what is effectively a new house, only to dump them, didn’t sit right with us.”

Richard’s proposed solution allowed the couple to retain much of their current setup, reducing both waste and disruption. The system would use the house’s existing infrastructure without the need to dig up floors or replace multiple radiators, something Eve found to be “a massive plus.”

The installation process was another aspect where the couple’s experience exceeded expectations. The installation team began work on a Monday morning with an expected commissioning date of Thursday. However, they completed the work even sooner. “The work was actually completed and commissioned by Wednesday, which was fab,”.

The quality of workmanship was clear, with minimal disruption to their home. “Unless you open the airing cupboard where the hot water tank is, there’s no pipework visible indoors at all,”.

“We kept them happy with teas, coffees, and biscuits, But they didn’t eat too many biscuits, so they were very good.”

For Eve and Stephen, the entire process—from the initial consultation to the final commissioning—was smooth and stress-free. They were especially impressed by the fact that they could keep much of their home’s existing infrastructure, aligning with their values of sustainability and waste reduction. This heat pump installation not only met the couple’s environmental and efficiency goals but also ensured their home remained comfortable with minimal disruption.
