From the outset of his new build project, Mr. Muir was committed to powering the cabin with renewable energy. Having relied on oil heating for the main house, he knew he wanted a more sustainable solution for his new venture.

"we wanted to appeal to ecotourism as well as look to the future"

David, one of our Directors, led the project, bringing his extensive installation expertise to the table. Mr. Muir initially considered underfloor heating for the cabin, but after consulting with David, he opted for Daikin Fan Coil space heaters instead. These heaters are not only highly efficient but also feature whisper-quiet technology, ensuring a peaceful environment for guests.

David advised against underfloor heating due to the cabin's suspended floor design. In such structures, a significant amount of heat can be lost through the gap between the building and the ground, severely compromising the system's efficiency. By choosing the Daikin Fan Coil heaters, Mr. Muir ensured that the cabin would remain warm and cozy without unnecessary energy waste.

"the installation process was reasonably quick and very smooth"

New builds like Mr. Muir's cabin are ideal for incorporating renewable technologies such as air source heat pumps. The higher insulation standards typical of new construction make these systems even more efficient, maximising both comfort and sustainability.

Collaborating with Mr. Muir on this project was a rewarding experience for our team. Not only did we help bring his vision of a sustainable retreat to life, but we also played a part in promoting eco-friendly tourism in Fife—a win for both our client and the local community.
